A ride with Taxify Boda. Here is what we think of the new Boda hailing service

Taxify Boda is a brand new Boda hailing option embedded within the Taxify ride-hailing app. While SafeBoda has monopolized the Motorcycle hailing business for over 3years now, Taxify boda has come out to offer competition to the orange wielding boda service. We therefore decided to give a try out of Taxify’s new Boda haling service in comparison to the already existing Taxi SafeBoda option.

While all ride hailing apps in Uganda feature a single user interface that either has the Taxi hailing dashboard or the Boda alternative, Taxify’s new approach to user’s interface seems to be focused on giving riders a 2 in 1 experience, one for the Cab and the other for the boda.

    Our experience with Taxify Boda

Boda Bodas are the most preferred transport means to beat around the Traffic jam in Kampala as they dodge all city barriers to your final destination. While Taxify is said to have hundreds of Bodas signed up for the service around the city, their Boda request process was somewhat hectic since we had to shift locations in order to hook up the closest Taxify Boda available within a 2km radius. We anticipate them to add more bodas as the service matures.

On the contrary, Taxify rates not only erased the long boda availability stress but also proved a point for being affordable.

We expected Taxify boda to display a SafeBoda like receipt with 4 digits teasing to round off to 5. A chronologically generated Taxify receipt featured low trip costs as compared to the usual SafeBoda rates for a similar trip.

Could it be that Taxify Boda wants to undercut the competition as is the case with their taxi hailing service? Or will their fares will remain constant or then again should we expect modifications just like the story has been with its Taxi hailing option? We don’t know that for now but their rate are ones to beat.

On issues of safety, we were not provided any Taxify protective gear as would be the case with SafeBoda that provides helmets to riders per trip and hairnets. This could mean that Taxify is still rolling out to a few drivers with gear as evidenced at the launch.

    Where Taxify Boda wins

We can’t deny the fact that Taxify has the best rates so far as compared to SafeBoda which has been the sole provider of boda boda hailing services in Uganda. We however anticipate a comeback of the latter as it has to respond to the competition lest it might put a dent to their growth.
