Yesterday reports came out that President Yoweri Museveni’s twitter account had been hacked, by a renown IT guru Joseph Owino, who was arrested on Sunday. On Monday Joseph sounded off his innocence after he was released, denying all allegations that he gained ‘unauthorized access to the account.
Joseph Owino said in a Facebook comment:
I am so grateful to my kick-ass wife — Daniella Boston who rallied troops to help get me released this evening. Thank you to all of you for your kind words and messages of concern. I am forever indebted to all of you who helped.
” The Founder/CEO of Owino Solutions Ltd and Kawowo Sports Media, Joseph Owino, has been released from police custody this evening after clearing allegations that he had hacked the social media profiles of the President of Uganda,” the statement read in part.
Sarah Kagingo, the President Museveni’s Special Assistant for Communications warned that his account had been hacked on Monday morning, . Hours later Museveni’s account posted that he’s in full control and that Kagingo was misleading the public.

The allegations, filed with the Uganda Police Force Special Investigations Unit, stated that Mr. Owino, together with other unknown persons had ‘hacked’ and taken control of the President’s social media profiles on Facebook and twitter. He spent the night at The Special Investigations Division in Kireka (also known as ‘Wembly’) and on Monday had his home and office searched, and office equipment confiscated for further investigation. Mr. Owino was treated with decency by the security agencies who thoroughly investigated and found the claims to be false. Owino Solutions has been an active and leading social media consultant to several clients in Uganda and abroad. Due to this involvement, some unscrupulous individual who shall not be named at this point had for motives yet to be determined claimed that Mr. Owino had gained unauthorised access to the Ugandan President’s Social Media profiles.[/signoff]
