Uganda Airlines has been the talk of the nation for a decade, now that government even unveiled plans of acquiring 4 Bombardier aircrafts to revive the defunct airlines, the state of purchase has been pushed to 23rd February and an initial launch later in June 2019. Close sources have reportedly confirmed that President Museveni has intervened in the launch date process after the responsible team altered it from the expected month of April.

The National airline was initially slated to launch in April this year which doubled as the carrier start date before close sources at the Ministry of Works and Transport are reported to have witnessed a press conference by Mr. Bagenda that bred a new launch date from April to June 2019.

Additionally, the board is yet to fill key vacant positions like Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, Director of Maintenance among others to fulfill all license obligations giving birth to an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) which is a prerequisite by the Civil Aviation Authority. These are responsible for compliance with the terms of the AOC at the airline level.

Extension of Uganda Airlines launch date

According to the East African, booked slots for training pilots were missed at the Bombardier facility in Montreal Canada. However, new slots are on the verge to be acquired in the US and Europe for over 36 pilots who are required for the 4 Uganda Airlines Bombardier jets.

Delivery of the 4 Uganda Airlines planes was initially slated to start this month with the first handover of a CRJ 900 jet and now 23rd February is the day Ugandans will be eagerly waiting to have a glimpse of the revamped national airline planes.

Well, with the current top-up delays, we can’t confirm whether the pushed delivery date will be achieved or when Uganda Airlines will finally land on an Air certificate with the required positions filled up with potential candidates. Nonetheless, we shall follow up on the current state of Uganda Airlines before waiting for an landing of the first CRJ 900 jet at the Entebbe International Airport.
