MTN Uganda bids farewell to its CEO, Brian Gouldie

In an unsuspecting turn of events, MTN Uganda’s CEO Brian Gouldie will be leaving the company after his 2 year tenure at the helm of the company has come to an end. The farewell dinner was held at Kampala Serena Hotel in Katonga hall and was graced by top C.E.Os from different companies in Uganda.

Mr. Gouldie joined the company in September 2014 and since then the company has gone through a series of changes some of which he’s had to contend with like a row with UCC, Bad PR for the company regarding some of its exercises while some circles believe these amount to the reasons as to why he’s leaving the company. He replaced Mazen Mroue who also left the company after his two year tenure elapsed.

However an MTN executive dismissed these allegations and this was cemented by the MTN Uganda  board chairman, Mr. Charles Mbire, who praised Gouldie for delivering on projected numbers and his performance was on par with the board’s expectations. What is happening is a leadership cycle at group level where talent is rotated across different areas of operation and that Gouldie will be missed by the echelons, staff and others at the big yellow telco, said the chairman.

In his own words, Brian Gouldie thanked the staff and management  for their contribution towards the company and showed respect for their continued support during conundrums that they together managed to overcome. He confessed his love for Uganda and how he will miss it.

During his tenure, MTN has been able to overcome many problems key among others like data billing woes, upgrading of it’s mobile money platform and re-launching of their 4G-LTE network.

Concerns regarding his replacement were left unanswered but we believe a replacement is within the pipeline within the month.
