Jumia, Uganda’s leading online shop, has caught the attention of shoppers across the country with a very bold statement: ‘We have the best prices on the market and we’ll offer you a price guarantee to prove it!’
Jumia has gone to the extent of promising to refund twice the difference, if customers find selected products (which happen to be some of the most popular electronics in the country), being sold by a competitor at a cheaper price.
Those who have a lot of time on their hands, may be encouraged to take a trip around town, moving from shop to shop to compare prices in hope of humiliating Jumia and making some money in the process. Others, however, will shop on Jumia from the comfort of their home or office with confidence, knowing they are getting the best deal possible.

When asked why the price guarantee is not being offered on all products, Jumia Uganda’s Country Manager, Ham Namakajjo clarified that “Whilst we aim to have the best prices on all products, it is an on-going continuous process guaranteeing this for all the tens of thousands of items on Jumia – so, we have decided to focus on the most popular products first.”
Jumia recently saw record sales during its last major discount promotion: the Jumia Black Friday Festival, held in late 2017. “We reached a new milestone in terms of sales during the Jumia Black Friday Festival – and as the leading online shop in Uganda, this means the highest number of online orders in Uganda’s history” Namakajjo added.
The Jumia Black Friday Festival garnered a lot of attention among shoppers and put Jumia on the map as a shopping destination that seriously competes on price.
