Infinix S4 First Impressions: Activating the selfie mode

Every smartphone has an attribute that stands out on it, to bring out the best in it. For the Infinix S series, it is the accurate and authoritative selfie camera that makes the miracles happen. The Infinix S4 is not any different with an all updated 32 MP front sensor and a lot more new features that are shipped with it.

Right before the launch date and even after, the debate that came up was on whether the new device can actually beat the competition to become the Selfie King? The good news is that we shall afford to answer that question upon having a full review in the next few days.

The S4 comes in to succeed the Infinix S3 and the S3X, the former sporting a 20 MP selfie camera while latter being the brand’s introductory product to the notch world. We happen to have got a copy of the Infinix S4 and we unwrapped it to find out what lies beneath the box.

The Infinix S4 is available in Ice Blue, Millan Black, and Tradewinds Gray colors – and our review device is the gray colored one.

    The first impressions

From the first sight, you can have true love for the S4. The general outlook speaks volumes of a handset that was designed with beauty on mind and elegance at heart. Right from the boxing, to the simple yet exceptionally good body build, it is all on point.

Like the other new smartphones making their way on the market today, this new Infinix phone does have the 6.2-inch screen. It sports the new water-drop notch which houses the powerful front selfie camera, while deviating away from the popular cut-out notch that many other entrants possess.

On the rear, is a triple rear camera setup – the first time an Infinix device is having this – which is backed up by a quad-flash light just below the vertical array. You also get a fingerprint sensor for security and the positioning is just good enough to dig in your index finger right to unlock the phone or work out something.

    What we like

The water-drop notch: This gives the S4 a brand new look and creates an even newer atmosphere for Infinix as a brand. With less smartphone bezels being the in-thing, having a notch that primarily supports this is an awesome innovation. Basically, the notch creates an attractive display molded out of the curves on the edges and it positions the front camera perfectly.

The battery: One of the specifications that Infinix perfected on its products is the battery, and the 4000 mAh cell on the Infinix S4 does the job well. For a full charge, you can be sure of an entire day’s activity without any break down to worry about.

The cameras: A 32 MP front selfie camera and a triple rear camera setup is one of the most perfect combinations you could ever find on a mid-range smartphone. The S4 is designed to brighten the selfies you take with an outstanding selfie cam, but having three cameras on the back is a more compelling deal – pushing the phone up to the list of the must have phones of 2019.

Android Pie + Cheetah v5: New phone, new software. This is what you get with the Infinix S4. The last time we reviewed an Infinix device (the Hot 7), it had XOS Honeybee running along Android Oreo which gave the phone a smooth flow when using it. The marriage between Android Pie and the new XOS Cheetah is smoother and compounds the enhancements from both parties to offer an amazing experience.

The simplicity: There are times you wonder how much time the smartphone manufacturers invest in making simple yet sophisticated handsets ready for the market. The Infinix S4 has a lot of cool technology, some of which you won’t find on mid-range devices of its caliber, yet it preserves a simple design in it all.

The details to these shall be revealed in our extensive phone review, coming up in the next couple of days.

    What we don’t like

The bloatware: For Infinix first time users, and the experienced that find some software unwanted, there are a lot of pre-installed apps that we found to be just space consumers than required. Apps like Opera News, Fruit Frolic, Scooper, Visha, among others are unnecessary and for a 32 GB storage capacity, you could end up filling the phone without knowing.

Data consumption: If you forget to turn on the data saver after setup, the phone will scoop all your data while making updates and mysterious downloads. Given that it supports 4G connectivity, you have to be conscious on this.
