The company is relentless about improving the payments system, and they are not done yet. As shopping patterns continue to evolve, so does the modes of Payment. Points Of Sale are going mobile and digital, the world is amazing, sort of. Digital payments are slowly beginning to replace the traditional payment methods like cash.
A mobile wallet, in simple terms, is a virtual mobile-based wallet where one can store cash for making mobile, online or offline payments.
To use the PayWay service, the only option was to go to a place where the company installed its kiosk. With the launch of the mobile wallet app, customers can pay for various services and transactions without using a PayWay kiosk. All you need is the PayWay Mobile Wallet app installed on your smartphone. You can download it here.
How to sign up for the PayWay Mobile Wallet App.
- Download the PayWay Mobile Wallet App from Google Play Store and open the APP.
- A screen with “This Application requires some permission for further work” will display. Click Grant all and continue to allow the required permissions.
- Click Register, or just fill in your account details to login. If you are creating a new account, continue reading the procedure.
- Enter your Mobile number. However, the App requires you to put the number in international format. That is, (country code)(local number) e.g 256755****** for Uganda and click next.
- Click on “Send SMS with Code” and you should receive a four digit code from PayWay which you enter in the white rectangle. Click Next.
- Enter your first and last name and press next.
- Next, you have to add a picture of your ID card. You can select from options like Driving Permit or National ID, whichever you want to use.
- Then, you’ve to sign and accept the Agreement with PayPal. After reading through the agreement (and you agree), sign in the white box by using your finger as a pen. Click “Finish”.
- PayWay will send you a message indicating that you have successfully registered for the Mobile Wallet. The message will contain your number and a 6 digit login password.
- On the next screen, enter your login details and press “Login”.
- The app will indicate that your password has expired and must be changed. Re-enter your old 6 digits password and click Next.

- Input a new password. The new password can contain numbers, letters and signs. So try to make a unique password. Continue by clicking Next.
- Confirm your new password and click “Next”.
- Click Yes to proceed with password change, or No to review your password.
- That’s all. The next screen will have the main menu and and everything else.

What can PayWay Mobile Wallet do?
At the moment, the app only has airtime top up for all networks in Uganda. The full arsenal of payments available on the kiosks like Utility bills, Pay TVs, Internet bundles among others shall be added soon. This will increase the options available for customers to pay for goods and services using the platform more conveniently.
You can also send and receive money to and from registered users. Cool stuff.
Topping up your PayWay Mobile Wallet is what requires a little bit of effort at the moment. To do that, you need to stop by a PayWay self-service kiosk near you. Another option is through a PayWay retailer at any location. Also, you can top up using Visa or MasterCard by login to the PayWay Web Kiosk.
PayWay is one of the methods to buy Airtime besides using scratch cards. The Commission banned on Airtime scratch cards, paving way for electronic means. With scratch card prices rising, PayWay from just save you from all the hustle and bustle.
