Can car production in Uganda take shape by 2021?

Kiira motors corporation is a car production company that raised eyebrows of every Ugandan when a proudly made in Uganda car hit the streets for a test drive in 2011. The Kiira Poc was an excellent innovation that gave birth to future models like the  Kiira EV Sedan series and the Kayoola bus.

In general, car production in Uganda has never taken shape on a large scale or even an official assembling plant coming to book as the first ever manufacturing zone available. Recently, the parliamentary committee on science and innovation inked plans to probe Kiira motors over the funding sent out to build an assembling plant in Uganda.

A possibility of car production before the next political wave

The political atmosphere in Uganda always registers more achievements and changes whenever the time for general elections comes up. Well, could there be a possibility of Kiira motors rising from the roots and stepping up for more cars like the EVS beast?

Kiira EVS is the latest vehicle to hit Kampala streets and currently available for pre-order the same way Kiira’s Kayoola bus may start taking trips by 2020. As a result, high demand for the road-tested Kiira EVS may impact a tough spike to the manufacturing company which may in return get enough funds to fully manufacture the car in Uganda.

The production and demand of the Kiira EVS is able to give a fertile ground for all previous models like the Kiira SMACK together with newer models, this would make Uganda roads flood with latest cars complying to the previous URA car importation policy. So, let’s not be surprised if the next Kiira motors announcement is of all fixed EVS errors and fulfillment of all pre-orders made.

In summary, Kiira motors is a mighty company that has proved innovations and car production in Uganda possible with over 3 car models manufactured in Uganda. Consequently, if the Kiira dream fails to hit the targets, Volkswagen could as well consider constructing an assembling plant in Uganda after Rwanda and Kenya.

Henceforth, we could see cars made in Uganda by 2021 even after missing the 2018 target. Even when the political atmosphere continues to rain with changes huge to impact on all sectors, the rise of innovations like car production is unpredictable and very possible to say the least.
