A young Ugandan industrial designer Edgar Ofoyuru, together with 15 other colleagues have successfully designed Pixan M6 and M8 smartphone prototypes, whose properties they say suites the African as well as Asian markets. The Pixan M6 and M8 are the first products of their kind in Uganda. The 23 year old Edgar is at the center of design and innovation which if moved to commercial production could place Uganda at the front of manufacturing smartphones.
Patented as Pixan under the trading name Pixan corporation, Edgar and his colleagues believe that the requirements for the growing market for smartphones in Uganda can be met.
Pixan mobile phones and services
Speaking to this blog, Edgar Ofoyuru who is also the Founder and Director of Pixan Corporation, says they plan to have a mega launch and pre-orders start mid-December. They have a plan for 2018, and they will not only launch Pixan Mobile, they also have plans to roll-out services around it like the Pixan Library and also the Pixan Stores which will be both online and physical, the way we see the countless Tecno shops around Kampala.
“We design the things, we send them to China” Edgar said, they do technical design and their Chinese counterparts send for them the component and they see if matches what their desires, it is confirmed for mass production.
In a separate interview, he also told NTV, that they will launch in Uganda and China and in Europe they plan to test in Geneva, Switzerland because they feel that from there they can know if it will be suitable for the European market. All tests done so far in Uganda are positive. Pixan has not done any tests in American and south America. The Uganda Smartphone designing company is confident that the growing global acceptance of their effort is a strong go will.
Edgar wants to see commercial production for smartphones back home in Uganda and his dream is to see Pixan as the image of Uganda within 5 years time they way South Korea Symbolizes with Samsung.
