Having crossed the 10 million mark to become Uganda’s second most used network, Airtel Uganda has today revised its data prices. While the data blasta campaign was launched last year to provide cheaper internet to all subscribers, the wind of change for affordable internet in Uganda has now visited Airtel just like MTN and Africell championed the marathon this year.
Airtel Uganda has also announced its new milestone in the country today as it became the first telecom company to have all its sites internet enabled. Whereas some sites are strictly restricted to Voice traffic. Airtel Uganda has set a new pace where all Ugandans will now have access to internet including the remote areas as long as they have network access.
While addressing guests at the Kampala Serena Hotel, the Airtel managing director VG Somasekhar said that Airtel’s new network upgrade is part of the company’s vision to empower the country with connectivity to high speed internet access which will drive economic growth and social development in Uganda. However this new commitment is expected to become a reality in 2-4 months.
According to the Prime minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who presided over the announcement. Airtel Uganda is promisingly shaping the telecom sector as evidenced by the new internet availability scheme. Furthermore the Prime Minister thanked the company for expanding internet coverage across the country through the recent upgrade from 2G to 3G as he said.
“I salute Airtel Uganda for expanding the Internet coverage across the Country through the upgrade of their capability from 2G to 3G that’s from 400 to over 1,000 locations and also further expanding their 4G coverage across the entire country” – Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda
